Internet provider Liquid Telecom Kenya is moving to offer fibre connections to homes and small businesses through its retail brand, Hai.The firm announced the move yesterday after completing its new Nairobi Metro network, a 4200km cable network built as part of its Sh20.3bn Internet infrastructure investment programme in Kenya. Hai unlimited internet service will serve homes and SMEs and is already operating in Runda and other housing estates. The Hai packages have also been built with a variety of value-added services, including video-on-demand ipidi tv.

Sliide Airtime expects to expand into South Africa, Ghana and Kenya later in the year, the firm announced as it entered Nigeria.The smartphone lock screen app shows a user’s favourite news and gist and rewards them each month with free airtime. To use Sliide Airtime one has to download the app and register their information about their age and interests to receive personalised content when unlocking their phone.

Kenya Network Information Centre (KeNIC)’s ‘We are .KE’ campaign has delivered a 60 per cent increase in local domain name registration since the beginning of 2015, from 32,000 domain registrations when the campaign began to now over 52,000 and the firm has now moved its servers to the East Africa Data Centre (EADC) to hit its 1m target.
